6 habits to make daily life better

Do remember the days we used to get grumpy on advice our parents gave us to help us for our well-being? I can recall some of them, I hope you can too. In case you can’t then this article is for you.

I’ve tried my best to recall some of them I used to get from parents as after a decade they seem more relevant than ever before. I’ve added a few from personal experience. Oh by the way, I’ll also add the scientific reason for keeping each habit in this list to argue out their importance. Maybe you know it already but I understood and acknowledged these pretty late. Now I try my best to follow these tiny habits as there is a lot more value than meets the eye.

1. Drink water before and after sleep

Our body loses a significant amount of water through respiration when we are asleep for hours. Drinking a glass of water restores it. Doing so before sleeping in the night helps to wake up early due to bladder pressure. Having a glass of water right after getting up in the morning improves bowel movement too.

2. Clean dishes after having a meal

If we could then we would have never cared to clean the dishes. Keeping used utensils in the sink for hours or days is extremely unhygienic. This may lead to pests issues at home. Cleaning dishes after meals saves water, saves time as you don’t have to soak them.

3. Soak clothes overnight before wash

Every few days we see new ads of washing machines and detergent with god-power to remove dirt and stains from clothes. But have you ever tried soaking them before putting them in the machine? Soaking clothes don’t need a warm water supply, lots of detergent or 1-2 hours of wash-time. Therefore practicing this reduces energy consumption, increases the life of fabric and saves some money on detergent too.

4. Avoid all purpose flour (Maida)

We all love tasty food. All purpose flour is easy to cook, bake and ferment. Therefore this is the first choice for a majority of cooked food companies and outlets. But consuming all purpose flour on a regular basis can lead to severe health issues. It has 3 main issues – very high glycemic index (GI), processed by use of bleaching chemicals, and very fine particles with low fiber content.

4.a. High GI means it releases sugar in our blood stream as soon as we ingest it. Body responds to this spike in sugar level by releasing an insane amount of insulin to regulate blood sugar. Since the body didn’t get enough time to use all the glucose it will be converted into fat. Regular use of maida can lead to inflammation, insulin resistance and eventually to Diabetes-II.

4.b. Naturally produced all purpose flour has a yellowish-brown colour. Bleaching agents are used to make it white. These agents are banned in European Union which follows strict norms for ensuring public health and safety.

4.c. All purpose flour is obtained as super fine flour left after filtering out bran from whole wheat flour. Bran contains fiber that helps in digestion. It has a tendency to stick to the walls of intestines and obstruct the digestion process. Because of this, we are not able to absorb all the nutrients from the food we eat while getting fat at the same time and face constipation issues too.

5. Eat fruits everyday

We may already know about “an apple a day keeps the doctor away”. Well it is not just apples. Be it any fruits, consuming fruits daily have immense health benefits. They are the best source of the complete spectrum of vitamins and minerals required by the body. Fruit consumption leads to a better usual mood throughout the day. Fruits reduce stress. They also prevent and slow down many age related issues (macular degeneration, wrinkles, muscle pain etc).

6. Make bed before any work

Our life may not be good today but if our night sleep is good then there’s a chance to make our life better the next day. If we make our bed before starting any work then no matter how our day goes by we always come to a comfy place at night. All negativity resets to zero if we can sleep well at night. Therefore, make bed before work so at night we can have a 6-8 hour of peaceful sleep.

Conclusion

There are many more other things that I do but I feel these many are good enough for starters. I hope you learnt something useful. In case you have any thoughts then do let me know by commenting below. Thanks for reading.
